nerding: 2 weeks in.

Sep 3rd, 2010

well, what can i say? i’m back in my hometown, and it’s been great so far! lol it’s a totally different experience coming back here as a student than it was as a soulless slave.

i’ve been spending quite a bit of time in the undergraduate library, of all places, getting work done. it’s phenomenal~! high-ceiling rooms filled with looooong old oak tables. the windows in this building are also amazing. XD ~ overall, the campus is simply huge & gorgeous!

after 2 weeks, i can finally say that classes are also going comfortably well. the professors are all top-notch, as can only be expected. but above all else, it’s the facilities that are superb! i was having a discussion with others in my exact same situation (7 of us transfers in all), and we are all so excited to be here. i noticed a common thread among us: we’re all very independent people with no strings attached to wherever we transferred from. maybe that’s really what it takes to complete such an insane move? XD;;;

my only complaint about the new school so far is the lack of power outlets in the classrooms. what the hell gives? every other aspect of a given classroom is state-of-the-art, but they just don’t have power strips or anything AT ALL~ i noticed that everyone is on battery. i should’ve suspected something when they mentioned at the start that you need a spare battery for the exam. ~_~;; the other transfers agree that that is the ONE weird thing about the school. but meh~ battery schmattery. need to get on ebay!

that said, the life of a student is very nice indeed! :)

job/career stress on the other hand… :\ let’s not even go there.

gotta love the whole 24-hour library notion. closes to the public before 8pm, and you get card-key access 24 hours all year long… lol by the way, the library is 3 freaking stories and HUGE. @_@ not many folks studying though… ^^

:D

back to the nightmare.

Aug 22nd, 2010

tomorrow, semester starts. whoo! the terror almost feels like undergrad again~ ha, right! actually, i have an ass load of reading to do right now. shouldn’t be on here (@ Dunn Bros now), but it’s been a while.

anyway, it’s nice to be back in columbia. the selection of supermarkets is simply stunning here. my favorite has to be Schnucks, believe it or not. when i lived in this town previously, i used to just drive to Hy-Vee. but late last night, i went to schnucks (on forum) to see if they had anything good, and HOLY COW. it had been stunningly remodeled! the last time i visited was in august 2008??? the makeover is simply amazing. it is easily one of the most beautiful grocery stores i have ever seen in my life. totally luxurious shopping @ 11 PM! i was wow-ing all summer long over the new Hy-Vee on Nifong (esp due to their cheap buffet for thick-skinners), but Schnucks definitely is the store to shop at. the veggies are SO fresh; the sale prices on some items are shockingly low; the schnucks branded stuff is actually pretty decent quality. and so many poshy cheeses too~ wowow. (not that i like cheese all that much.) gosh, it’s just a gorgeous supermarket. please check it out if you’re in the area.

this weekend, i spent a new record low of $0.59 at Kohl’s in 2 transactions.

8/19:
– 3 shirts.
– after $10-off (no minimum purchase) coupon,
– total came to: $0.16
– paid with debit card.

8/21:
– 1 shirt. 1 bra.
– after $10-off (no minimum purchase) coupon [yep, had 2 of them]
– total came to: $0.43
– paid with coins.

lol~ kohl’s stuff is cheap crap though, so i’m not that excited, to be honest. i feel it’s only safe to buy undergarments or solid colors from there. if you buy anything with a print, you’ll see people around town wearing the same exact thing. for whatever reason, the kohl’s brands will take some ugly-ass design and make it in petites, regulars, plusses, maternity. so you could potentially have someone who is a plus size 6x and a pregnant woman wearing the same top, running into each other at the mall or something (very likely scenario).

ugh, on that note, screw kohl’s. ;D

when is fall coming? i’m dying. the heat has been TERRIBLE here this summer. the heat index (as well as the ACTUAL temperature, often times) is well over the 100s here~! although it’s cooled down slightly this past week, it’s still hell. i have tanned so badly that i am ALMOST considering resorting to the parasols used by those asian-asians to preserve whatever paleness i have left.

on the plus side, skin has dramatically improved! no pimples or acne at this very moment, although it’s about that time of the cycle for the zits to pop out. we’ll see what happens. product overdose vs. hormonal imbalance coupled w/school stress.

i forgot just how large the GLBT population is around here. been living out in the middle of nowhere for the past 2 years, and i know it’s kinda cliche to say it, but i’m enjoying the diversity.

what the hell is this?

ever seen mopping this dangerous during business hours? the employee mopped over 30 minutes prior to our leaving, and it still had not dried by the time we left. it was slippery as hell with the tennis shoes i had on, and the hilariously obvious soap suds were no excuse defense.

as a footnote, same joint:
